About me

I am the researcher in the field of material religion and the history of religious art, also, artist who paints ink and watercolor, etc. When I work as an artist, I am sometimes referred to as "Ayako Kimijima". In 1992, I entered the Junior and Senior High School attached to Joshibi University of Art and Design, where I began to create and exhibit my paintings. In 2004, I graduated from the university and continued to work at the National Museum of Art while continuing to create artworks. In 2010, I entered graduate school, majoring in comparative culture in the master's program and Japanese history and international Japanese studies in the doctoral program. In 2019, I received my PhD (The Graduate University for Advanced Studies). Currently, I am a Research Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. My key research theme is to "look at society through the material culture of Buddhist statues.

私について

物質宗教論・宗教美術史を中心に研究する研究者であり、水墨画を中心に制作している美術家。 女子美術大学附属中学・高等学校在学中より絵画作品の制作・発表を開始。大学では芸術学を学び、卒業後は博物館等に勤務しながら作品制作を続ける。2010年、大学院に進学、修士課程では比較文化、博士課程では日本歴史、国際日本学等を専攻する。2019年、総合研究大学院大学で博士（学術）を取得。現在は日本学術振興会特別研究員として仏像から社会を見る研究を続けている。

主な業績

研究者としては、2021年『観音像とは何か――平和モニュメントの近・現代』（青弓社）出版。2020年、学位論文「平和祈念信仰における観音像の研究」で第15回国際宗教研究所賞・奨励賞受賞。2019年、「現代の「マリア観音」と戦争死者慰霊――硫黄島、レイテ島、グアム島、サイパン島の事例から」で中外日報社、第15回涙骨賞受賞。2018年、公益財団法人鹿島美術財団「美術に関する調査研究助成」など。 美術家としては、2006年、第9回岡本太郎記念現代芸術大賞（TARO賞）入選。2006年、7th SICFにおいて浅井隆賞受賞。2006年、雑誌『美術手帖』の「2000年代から未来へ向かう日本の新世代アーティスト108人」に選出。2004年、第19回ホルベインスカラシップなど。
